PPE News

Program Dinner:
On Thursday, October 10, the PPE program held its second "not-so-annual" program dinner! Held at Peter Maille's home, PPE faculty and several students were in attendance. The main course was a decadent plethora of pizzas, and for dessert a s'more pizza was offered. Several interesting discussions were had, including one centering on PPE graduate Paul Lubeck's research into the relationship between demographics and interest rates. I personally had a nice conversation with Dave Komito about whether or not I exist. Although I left early, I believe a bonfire was held and have no doubt that it was very enjoyable. A big thanks to Peter and Robin for hosting us, and I hope everyone had fun!

PPE Degree Changes:
Going into effect fall 2013, the requirements for a PPE degree at EOU have changed. There will now be a required thirty-five lower-division credits: Instead of being able to choose between PHIL101 (Self, World, and God) and PHIL203 (Critical Thinking; now PHIL103), and POLS200 (Comparative Politics) or POLS221 (International Relations), both PHIL101 and POLS200 have been removed. POLS251 (Social Science Research Methods) has been added.

Only twenty-five upper-division credits are still required; however, ECON334 (US Economic History) and PHIL420 (Philosophy of Law) have been removed, ECON370 (History of Economic Thought) has been added, and one must now choose between and economics and political science field placement. There are fifteen credits of upper-division electives, five in each of the three disciplines.

Please note that if you were admitted to EOU before the new requirements went into effect, you may choose either to receive your degree under either the new or old requirements. To view the current PPE and PA checksheets, please click here.
